At Jonathan Freemantle's studio

Ahead of his upcoming exhibition with Escat Gallery, Jonathan Freemantle welcomes us into his studio in Scotland to share the foundations of his artistic practice. Working across sculpture and painting, Freemantle transforms natural materials gathered from the surrounding landscape into works that emerge through carving, burning, grinding, and painting by hand. Rooted in meditation and a profound relationship with nature, his practice explores themes of transformation, flight, memory, and the invisible energies that connect the body to the natural world. In this video, the artist reflects on the processes, materials, and ideas behind the new body of work that will be presented at Escat Gallery in March 2027.
