Bell ringing at Great St. Mary’s in Cambridge before a Sunday Service. I’m not entirely sure what method is being rung here, there is definitely 12 bells going and I believe it may be Grandsire Cinques but I could be wrong!
The tower has 12 full circle ring-able bells (or 13 if you count the flat 6th!) and it was great to catch all 12 being rung here. The ring is also only 9 years old at current, only being forged by Taylors in 2009. This is something that is visibly inscribed on the bells, which can be viewed from a viewing point a bit further the tower from the ringing chamber!
The tenor of this set of 12 is 24cwt - 1 - 1 or 1232kg. Some of the older bells have been retained in the tower for the purposes of being the clock chimes. These bells are also visible in the belfry viewing point and are interesting to look at as some appear to have been built into the tops of others!
