Mr. Vijay Jardhari on Beej aur Mitti - Jeevan ke Aadhaar at National Permaculture Convergence 2023

Mr.Vijay Jardhari is a small farmer, prominent environmental activist, and a prolific writer, focusing on sustainable agriculture by conserving traditional knowledge and preserving seed biodiversity, along with the conservation of local forests. Born in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India, in 1957, Mr. Jardhari has devoted his life to safeguarding the rich biodiversity of the Himalayan region. He has played a pivotal role in various movements, including the Chipko Andolan and campaigns against limestone mining in Uttarakhand. Currently, Vijay Jardhari is at the forefront of the Beej Bachao Andolan, a movement dedicated to preserving traditional agricultural knowleage and the biodiversity of the Himalayan region. Mr. Jardhari is well known for his instrumental role in reviving the ‘Barahnaja’ – a traditional mixed cropping system of 12 grains and seeds that had been nearly forgotten in the face of present day commercial agriculture .
