In 1994, almost 5 million people visited a casino town at the bottom of Nevada with no mayor and no city council. Last year, about 1.4 million came. A riverboat casino sits dark on the Colorado River, and two towers that were never finished still stand in the desert. So what happened to Laughlin? In this video, we follow the town from a 98-cent chicken dinner in 1966 to a half-billion-dollar casino market. Then we go through what broke it: tribal casinos, lost flights, a deadly night in 2002, and the Great Recession. We also look at the new landlord collecting rising rent on its biggest casinos, and why some of the visitors Las Vegas priced out are now driving south. Can anyone save Laughlin? Watch to the end for the verdict. Have you been to Laughlin? Tell us the year and the casino in the comments. 🔔 Subscribe to Behind The Strip for the real story behind the neon. #Laughlin #LaughlinNevada #LasVegas #CasinoHistory #Nevada #ColoradoRiver #VegasNews #AbandonedCasino #ColoradoBelle #DonLaughlin #NevadaHistory #BehindTheStrip
