Why does a yawn spread from one person to the next, even when you only read about it? In this calm, hour-long story, we follow the research behind one of the most ordinary and least understood things the body does.
We begin with the yawn itself, and with the old idea that it brings in extra oxygen. We then see how patient researchers tested that idea and set it gently aside. From there we meet babies who yawn before they are born, animals that seem to catch yawns from one another, and children who start responding to them only as they grow. Along the way we explore what scientists currently think yawning does for the brain, and why it gathers so closely around the hours of sleep.
There is nothing to remember and nothing to follow closely. Let the story carry itself.
Narrated by Frederick Surrey. No music. Educational content, not medical advice.
