12 string slide guitar - 4 solo instrumentals by American guitarist Leo Kottke...played here by Michael Hulme:
1 Crow River Waltz
2 Jack Fig
3 Sailors Grave in the Prairie
4 Vaseline Machine Gun
These famously inventive, colourful and frequently energetic pieces generally considered as falling within the genres of New Acoustic Folk and/or American Primitive Guitar were composed or perhaps a better word would be created by Leo Kottke whilst still in his 20s and recorded by Kottke himself in 1969 on John Fahey's Takoma records label.
All four pieces are played in an open G major tuning with the guitar tuned down slightly from standard pitch giving the resulting sound an added deep resonance. They're played with a fingerstyle technique, the first two without a slide and the second two with a combination of fingers and slide.
