In the Rajasthan assembly election 1967, any political party didn't get an absolute majority, Swatantra party was second largest party after congress. Congress got 88 seats while the Swatantra party got 48 seats due to which an anti congress alliance was formed. Bharatiya Jan Sangh, Swatantra Party, Aamyukt Socialist Party and Independent MLA came under an umbrella. Despite having majority Governer Sampurnanand didn't invite Anti congress alliance. Violent mass protest took place in Jaipur in which nine people were killed in police firing and eventually, President's rule was imposed. After two months of this incident, MLAs of Jan Sangh changed their court. Finally, Mohan Lal Sukhadia of the Congress Party once again became the Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
