South Carolina CAN’T Fire Shane Beamer?! Here’s Why

Is Shane Beamer’s job actually safe at South Carolina? After another brutal loss — this time against Kentucky — South Carolina fans are understandably asking what comes next for Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks. But new reporting suggests Beamer’s future in Columbia may be far more secure than anyone expected, even after a disastrous 2–3 start. On today’s Locked On Gamecocks, Chris Marler breaks down the latest surrounding Beamer’s job security, the massive financial commitment South Carolina could face if it decided to make a coaching change, and why firing Beamer may not be nearly as realistic as some fans believe. Then we go back inside the Kentucky loss and look at some absolutely baffling numbers. South Carolina is leading the SEC in rushing, averaging 256 yards per game on the ground and 6.53 yards per carry. The Gamecocks have dramatically reduced the number of sacks allowed and rank near the top of the conference in total offense — yet somehow they’re 2–3 after blowing another double-digit lead. How does a team putting up those numbers keep losing? Chris breaks down the questionable decisions, abandoned running game, fourth-down calls, LaNorris Sellers’ performance, South Carolina’s turnover problems and why this team continues to find ways to lose games it appears capable of winning. Plus: Is the problem bigger than any one player or coordinator? Can Beamer fix it? And what does South Carolina’s remaining SEC schedule mean for the future of the program?
