Top of Innsbruck | A Scenic Alpine Hike and Alpine Zoo

Join me for another day in Innsbruck, Austria — this time heading high above the city to explore the mountains, walk part of the Goethe Trail, visit the Alpine Zoo, and enjoy one of the most scenic picnics of my trip. I take the lifts and cable cars up to the Top of Innsbruck and set off along the Goethe Trail, a beautiful mountain path with incredible views over the Alps. The heat — and my already sunburned face — eventually decide how far I can go, but I make it to the first Zugspitze viewpoint before turning back. And honestly, turning back has its own reward: I find a quiet green slope with sheep nearby and stop for a picnic surrounded by mountains. It ends up being one of those travel moments that reminds me exactly why I love getting away from everyday life. Later, I make my way down to the Alpine Zoo in Innsbruck. Unfortunately, the heat means many of the animals are hiding or sleeping, but the Alpine ibexes are definitely something to admire. I also talk a little about the fascinating — and rather strange — historical beliefs surrounding them. Back in Innsbruck, I take one last evening walk through the city and discover a café bar with one of the most interesting menus I've seen on this trip.
