"I spent my career believing every mind had a point where pressure revealed weakness. I never considered that vulnerability could also reveal connection."
When the Dominion abducts ordinary cybersecurity specialist Daniel Brooks from a peaceful diplomatic vessel, they dispatch their most feared interrogator: Dr. Vaelor Senn. With a flawless twenty-seven-year record across seventeen alien civilizations, Senn believes every sentient species breaks under the exact same linear formulas of fear and pressure.
Frustrated by Brooks’s stubborn, self-deprecating humor and refusal to yield military credentials, an impatient Dominion Prefect bypasses standard protocols and downloads humanity's entire public digital archive—unfiltered.
Expecting to find a clean map of human vulnerabilities to exploit, Senn and his superiors connect directly to the neural feed. Instead of pure terror, they are blindsided by a torrential flood of human contradictions: grief paired with inappropriate jokes, real-world fear transformed into campfire ghost stories, and millions of broken souls reaching out to heal one another.
The Dominion is about to learn that human resilience isn't the absence of fear—it's what we choose to do after the damage is done.
