"The universe doesn't know what you want unless you ask for it." Nico Rallo runs a small design studio in Brooklyn under his own name. He'd planned on sports until a near-fatal car accident at sixteen put him in a coma for two weeks and through thirteen surgeries. Homeschooling to graduate on time led him to a vocational programme, the vocational programme led him to an AutoCAD class, and that was that. Two weeks after graduating he and his best friend loaded a truck and moved to New York with no jobs lined up. In this conversation he talks about why a four-person firm taught him more than a two-hundred-person one would have, the townhouse where everything went wrong and what a shower head installed six inches too low actually costs to fix, why he's never had a job come from social media, and what he'd change about how designers are valued if he could change one thing.
