Ideal & Non-Ideal Solution (Solutions) | Chemistry Class 12th + NEET 2026 Preparation with Hemant!

Hemant Sir explains ideal and non-ideal solutions in a fun, easy way. Ideal solutions follow Raoult's Law exactly: their vapour pressure matches the formula (P_solution = P°A XA + P°B XB). Non-ideal solutions don’t follow this law. They show two types of deviations: • 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Vapour pressure is higher than expected (e.g., mixtures like CCl4 + benzene or CCl4 + alcohol). • 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Vapour pressure is lower than expected (e.g., chloroform + acetone or acids like HCl + water). 𝐒𝐢𝐫 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧: • Weak bonds between different molecules (like in CCl4 mixtures) cause positive deviation → molecules escape easily → higher vapour pressure. • Strong bonds (like in acid-water mixtures) cause negative deviation → molecules don’t escape easily → lower vapour pressure. He also shares tricks to remember examples and links deviations to energy changes (ΔH_mix and ΔV_mix).
