High throughput computing (or HTC) is a computational method that breaks computing tasks up into many smaller tasks that are run simultaneously. Sometimes, workloads that may be slow or bottlenecked on HPC are actually better suited for HTC. If you work on image analysis (including MRI, GIS, etc.) text-based analysis, including DNA read mapping and other bioinformatics (hyper)parameter sweeps machine learning and AI executed with multiple independent training tasks, different parameters, and/or data subsets large-scale model optimization/inference OR HPC workloads with hundreds or thousands of jobs, HTC might be a good fit for your needs! For our fall Lunch & Learn, the Research Facilitation Service was joined by Amber Lim with the Center for High Throughput Computing (chtc.cs.wisc.edu/) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Amber walked us through what HTC is and how the OSPool (osg-htc.org/services/ospool/) can help accelerate your research using computing infrastructure from institutions across the country.
