This lesson follows that architectural decision down through the stack: IPv4 host-group addressing Multicast address allocation and scope 224.0.0.0/24 and why it behaves differently IPv4 multicast-to-Ethernet mapping The 32:1 Layer 2 aliasing problem IPv6 multicast, scope, and the removal of broadcast IPv6 prefix-based multicast addressing The objective isn't to memorise multicast ranges.
