Multicast starts with a different question from unicast: not where is the receiver?, but which group does this traffic belong to?
This lesson follows that architectural decision down through the stack:
IPv4 host-group addressing
Multicast address allocation and scope
224.0.0.0/24 and why it behaves differently
IPv4 multicast-to-Ethernet mapping
The 32:1 Layer 2 aliasing problem
IPv6 multicast, scope, and the removal of broadcast
IPv6 prefix-based multicast addressing
The objective isn't to memorise multicast ranges. It's to understand what a multicast address represents, how that identity is allocated and scoped, and what happens to it when it reaches Layer 2.
