Is Evidence Enough to Believe in God? | Pentecostal Christian, Part 2

How do you know God exists...and what turns evidence into personal conviction? In Part 2 of our conversation with a Pentecostal Christian, Travis and he and his friend continue working through the relationship between reason, revelation, and belief. The discussion begins with creation and the question of a creator, then turns to why people can examine the same world and reach different conclusions about God. He argues that the evidence of design, moral arguments, and the world around us provide reasons for belief. Travis asks what role God’s own communication plays in that conviction, and what it means to say that God has impressed something on your heart. Their disagreement raises difficult questions: Can someone recognize evidence for God and still reject it? What can we know about another person’s spiritual experience? And how do we distinguish something that is possible from something we have reason to believe? The final part returns to biblical authority: fulfilled prophecy, expectations of the Messiah, Isaiah, and the difference between finding meaning in a text and reading meaning into it. This is an extended, sometimes tense conversation about the reasons behind belief and the challenge of understanding someone else’s position.
