ECL's Day Brings Issues| Former Soldier Responds

A retired soldier has reacted to the reported change to Zambia's National Day of Prayer associated with the late President Edgar Lungu's legacy—but what does this decision mean for national unity, faith, and Zambia's Christian heritage? The National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance and Reconciliation was established in 2015. Recent reports indicate that the October 18 observance is being merged with the commemoration of Zambia's declaration as a Christian nation on December 29, 2026. The change has prompted public discussion about prayer, national identity, and the legacy of the late Edgar Chagwa Lungu. In this video, Wilson Chishala examines the retired soldier's reported reaction and the wider questions surrounding the decision. We also turn to Ackim Njobvu, Democratic Union (DU) presidential candidate for the 2026 elections, who has been described in the supplied material as Zambia's youngest presidential candidate. What should the government, churches, political leaders, and citizens consider when making decisions about national religious observances? And what role do emerging presidential candidates play in Zambia's political conversation?
