Melbourne Gangland War: The Deadliest Chapter in Australian Crime

An estimated 36 people were killed in the Melbourne gangland war as disputes over drugs, money and power turned deadly. The murders spread across the city and continued for almost a decade. In this episode of Australian Underbelly, we trace the conflict from the murder of Alphonse Gangitano to the feud between the Moran family and Carl Williams. Williams survived being shot by Jason Moran in 1999. He then built a multimillion-dollar drug operation and paid others to kill. Mark, Jason and Lewis Moran were murdered in the years that followed. Their deaths made national headlines, but the war involved several feuds and many victims whose names are less well known. Some of their murders remain unsolved.
