INTRODUCTION (From the manual):
Mag the Max, a secret robot project is all that remains of the galaxy's civilisation: Component parts are scattered around the planet-assemble our hero and engage the mechanical invaders. In the last days before the great collapse, the remnants of humanity realised that their demise was inevitable.
Mechanoid hordes from a distant and undiscovered galaxy had laid waste to civilisation in a series of brutal attacks, leaving only death and destruction in their wake. But as reports of the first assault rang through the known worlds, Sci-corps were putting the finishing touches to a prototype robo-centurian; Mag Max. The last defender of mankind was barely completed before Sci-corps were reduced to dust in withering hail of laser death. The invaders were unaware of this project that could prove to be their downfall, for deep in the planet's bowels a circuit has closed and Mag Max lives! Seeking out his various components, scattered across the continents he gains strength and firepower to complete his final programme: Death to the Invaders!
Begin by guiding Max along the planets surface and through the underground caverns. Take control of him and search the planet for the component parts; As the assembly takes phase his power and defences will increase. You will also discover special craters which will transport Max to the underground levels where more dangers lurk. Armaments consist of Super-Laser with which you must eliminate all aliens and their structures, however certain of them can only be vanquished with the special lance that is part of your weapons system. At the end of each stage you confront the leader of the invading forces which must be completely overcome to proceed to the next level.
REVIEW:
Mag Max is a combination between levels where you are walking on an isometric surface and a 2D side scrolling shoot em up in underground caverns. You are a robot project and the only thing left of the galaxy's civilization after the attack from Mechanoid hordes.
You was not fully completed so you will have to find the rest of your component parts. You start as some kind of a spaceship and will end up as a big walking robot when you collect all the parts. The parts is functioning as a shield, so if you get hit by enemy fire, you will lose a part, and if you have lost all parts and you get hit, you will lose a life.
There is crates on both the surface and in the underground, so you can shift between the surface and the underground, and at the end of each level you will meet a boss with three heads, which is the leader of the invading forces.
Technically this isn’t exactly the best, but compared to the versions for the other 8 bit computers it is actually the most playable. If you can live with the monochrome graphics and that some bullets can be tough to see, when you are at the isometric surface, because of this (especially when battling the boss) then you got a pretty good port here, and as this version has got in game AY music added by KDF Software, I found it worth to check out!
There is no ending for this game and this walkthrough ends when the game loops.
The game was published by Imagine Software Ltd in 1987.
