14) Haircutting & Shaping Time allotted: 30 minutes Instructions: 1. Cut guideline with scissors. 2. Using a razor, cut from guideline to occipital bone using vertical sections. 3. Demonstrate thinning shears on a vertical or horizontal section in the back. Complete haircut using scissors; at least 1/2 inch must be removed. (can be optional, if not asked to complete. listen to the instructions during the exam) STEPS: Client preparation: proper draping; hair free of tangles; proper sectioning (clean/sharp); partings neat and controlled. Coordination of comb with scissors/razor: tools handled properly with comb; candidate does not put tools down while cutting; scissors closed while combing; tail combs not used for cutting; proper palming; tools not placed in pocket; razor guard used if applicable. Thinning: removal of excess bulk appropriate to hair texture. Safety: tools handled correctly; neck/cape free of hair; hair swept from floor.
