This is an instrument I've wanted to learn for a while now and I absolutely love it. I've been practicing it for the last couple of months and it's definitely the most difficult instrument I'm learning, a very rewarding experience though! When deciding on the songs I would do for this medley, Flower Foyer and Violet Tactics jumped out to me as perfect for my current level on the instrument as the melody is mostly pentatonic and is in the key of D minor which is the natural key of the Shakuhachi! The style of it and the grace notes in the melody were also clearly inspired by traditional japanese music, so it was just too obvious that I had to try and I gotta say, I'm very proud of what came out! This video features vocals by Kate Claassen! This arrangement has a lot of passages where I used big vocal harmonies like a synthesizer, it makes for a unique sound and it was really fun to see her bring this strange vision of mine to life. My good friend Julien Bouillé also provided me with some fun text boxes for the different songs in the medley, as he's way funnier than me and just a better writer too. Thanks to both of them for making this video more special! Lastly, this video was the perfect excuse to arrange insaneintherain's arrangement of his arrangement of Field of Hopes and Dreams (that's a lot of arranging!). I started playing saxophone and making music 5 years ago after having discovered his channel and my life really wouldn't be the same without it. This was actually one of the first songs I learned on saxophone, so it was really fun to pay homage to it 5 years later with a big band version. Man I love making these videos, thanks for watching!
