On the second day, the weather changed dramatically, with higher winds and low-level cloud covering the valleys. We decided to set off before sunrise with the head torches and get a few miles in before stopping for some shelter and breakfast behind a large boulder, which did a good job of keeping the wind off our backs. On the trip, the stove worked perfectly, but I did notice that the burners were getting through quite a lot of fuel, probably due to the high winds and cold temperatures. We’re going to start work on developing a simple, super-thin titanium windshield that wraps around the inside of the stove, specifically for using alcohol burners or solid fuel in high winds. The windshield will pack neatly around the inside edge without interfering with the nested cups and bottles. We’ll have more updates on this soon.
