The Haunting of Room 16 | The Inn Built on Ashes The Nahma Inn sits on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, in the tiny community of Nahma, on Lake Michigan, and according to decades of stories, its guests may not be the only ones staying there. There’s Miss Nell, the inn’s most famous ghost, said to haunt Room 16. Guests and employees have reported furniture moving, beds being remade, lights switching on and off, footsteps in empty hallways, objects flying through the kitchen, and even a woman appearing on the stairs. But Nell isn't simply a ghost story. Nell Fleming was a real woman who lived in Nahma and worked for decades as the personal secretary to lumber company president Charles Ellis Good. She was also a township treasurer and active in the community. Local legend says Nell and Charlie Good were romantically involved—and that Nell spent years waiting for him. But the historical record doesn't prove the alleged romance that became part of her ghost story. But, Nell may not be alone. There are other ghosts at the Nahma Inn.
