Matthew 13:1-23
The Master Key To Unlocking All Parables
Matthew = Teach you how to flourish in the kingdom
Matthew teaches us the laws, economy and principles of the kingdom
Too many Christians are not flourishing because they don’t know how to operate in this kingdom
You’ve been saved into a kingdom.
Kingdom of God operates differently than the Kingdom of this world
Matthew 12 = Religious Leaders plot to kill Jesus over Sabbath
Turning Point in the ministry of Jesus
Going forward, Jesus will only teach using Parables
Matthew 13 = 7 Parables about the Kingdom of God
Topic Subjects of Jesus: Kingdom, Hell & Money
Parable = Earthly Story with a heavenly meaning
Parable = use of an illustration from everyday life to teach a deep meaning principle
Parable = window & mirror | window to see God & mirror to see oursleves
Kingdom of Heaven/God = Physical & Spiritual
Matthew 13
Here Jesus gives us the most important parable of all the parables. It is the Parable of the Sower.
Mark 4:13
Jesus is saying if you can not understand this parable then how will you be able to understand the others
This parable is the key to understanding all the other parables
Matthew 13:1-9
The parable of the sower is the master key.
Jesus explains it
Matthew 13:10-17
Parables do 2 things to 2 sets of people:
1. Those who hunger & thirst for righteousness will be filled
Those who have a desire and heart for God will receive
2. Those who are hardened will not receive but be even more hardened
Proverbs 25:2 says, "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings."
When Christ gives parables, it is meant to cause the listener to dig and seek understanding
Matthew 13:18-23
Seed = Word of God
Sower = Preacher/Teacher
Soil = Heart
Each of us represents a soil.
The first type of soil he describes is that by the wayside.
This is soil that is not tender and tilled it up it is hard soil that is walked on.
Referring to people with hardened hearts when it comes to the things of God.
The second type of soil here is rocky soil.
These people receive the Word immediately but because they have no root they cannot produce fruit and the moment trouble comes they wither away.
The trouble comes to steal the Word to steal the seed.
The third type of soil is those with thorns.
These are the people who all the cares of this world to choke out the Word in their life.
They get busy with daily demands. They are deceived by riches. They try to gain wealth their way and not God’s way. And then they have the desire for other things such as power, status, and acceptance.
And all of these concerns choke out the Word causing it to produce no fruit.
The fourth type of soil is good soil.
What makes good soil?
Three things those who hear the Word, accept the Word and bear fruit or in other words those who do the Word of God.
Faith without action is dead.
And these people produce a harvest of some thirty, sixty, and even a hundredfold.
You get to decide how much you receive.
What you give towards the Word of God determines what you get back from the Word.
Dedicate yourself to the Word of God and receive the inheritance that God has for you.
Galatians 3:29 says, “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
The Inheritance
Acts 20:32
Here Paul says the Word of God’s grace or in other words the Word of God does two things for us
One it builds us up.
Two Paul says it gives you an inheritance
How do you get the inheritance? It comes through the Word of God
Many people have an inheritance waiting for them but they are not receiving it
Way too many believers who are sick, depressed, and beaten down because they do not understand that God has an inheritance for them
We are heirs and joint heirs with Christ
Inheritance there is a process and there are steps into receiving it
Legal paperwork you have to go through here on earth and there is a process to receive your inheritance in the Kingdom as well
Hebrews 6:12-15
Faith & Patience
In order to receive you must first believe. We receive by faith.
Our inheritance is important because it includes all that God has for us
Includes salvation, healing, provision, protection, guidance, joy, peace, and love
It takes knowing God to receive these things
Knowing God is key
Accessing The Inheritance
2nd Peter 1:1-3,
When we know God what two things do we receive?
Everything we need for life and Godliness
What's included in our inheritance? Everything we need
How do we access our inheritance?
Through God’s great and precious promises we receive our inheritance.
Through these promises you begin to take on the divine nature
