Calicut, 1498: a herald unrolls the gifts that da Gama brought the Zamorin, striped cloth, hats, basins, sugar and two little casks of honey, and the whole court laughs. A drum-thundering comic song from the Malabar coast.
"Four Hats and a Jar of Honey" by Malabar, from the radio of Winds of Wander, made for the game with Suno.
Winds of Wander is an age-of-sail trading and adventure game on the real coasts of the world, from 1402 to 1799. In development, by one maker.

Lyrics
Hear ye, hear ye, Calicut! The pepper coast, attend!
Three ships have come from the world's far edge, around the land's far end,
Their captain's name is Gama, and he brings, now let me see,
A present for the Zamorin! (Ooooh!) Unroll it! One! Two! Three!
Twelve striped cloths! (Twelve!) Four scarlet hoods! (Four!)
Six hats, four strings of coral beads, six basins... is there more?
A case of sugar! (Sweet!) Two casks of oil! (And then?)
A case of sugar! (Sweet!) Two casks of oil! (And then?)
Two little casks of honey...
For the greatest king of men! (Ha!)
The governor looked at the little pile, he looked at it once, then twice,
He called the treasurer, called the clerk, he called for their advice,
And the officials laughed until their bangles rang: "This? For our lord? Not that!
The poorest merchant out of Mecca brings more tucked inside his hat!" (One hat!)
Twelve striped cloths! (Twelve!) Four scarlet hoods! (Four!)
Six hats, four strings of coral beads, six basins... is there more?
A case of sugar! (Sweet!) Two casks of oil! (And then?)
Two little casks of honey...
For the greatest king of men! (Ha!)
Wash thy hands, O Zamorin, in a basin from the West,
Wear a woollen hood at noon, for the monsoon knows what's best,
Six hats for a single head, my lord, and each of them a gem,
We'll take turns in the other five... and pepper all of them!
They ask for pepper. By the shipload.
For a cask of honey?
Two.
Oh. TWO. Load the ships.
So they bought a little pepper, and they paid in coin at last,
So they bought a little pepper, and they paid in coin at last,
And they sailed to their rainy country with a tale of oceans vast,
Now the six hats hang in the palace, and on feast days, for a lark,
The drummers wear them when they play... and the honey? Gone by dark.
Twelve striped cloths! (Twelve!) Four scarlet hoods! (Four!)
Six hats, four strings of coral beads, six basins... is there more?
A case of sugar! (Sweet!) Two casks of oil! (And then?)
We'll take turns in the other five... and pepper all of them!
