Canada’s ENTIRE History Explained in 10 Minutes

America has invaded it, tried to persuade it, and even suggested making it the 51st state. But every time, Canada refused. So why has Canada never become part of the United States? In this documentary, we explore the fascinating history of Canada, from the Indigenous nations and the Haudenosaunee Great Law of Peace to the Vikings who reached L'Anse aux Meadows around 1021. Discover the stories of John Cabot, Jacques Cartier and the origin of the name “kanata,” Samuel de Champlain and New France, the fur trade and the Hudson’s Bay Company, the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, and the Quebec Act. We’ll also uncover the American invasion of 1775, the Loyalists who moved north, the War of 1812, and the roles played by Isaac Brock, Tecumseh, and Laura Secord. Then we follow Canada’s journey through Confederation in 1867, John A. Macdonald, the Canadian Pacific Railway, Louis Riel, the residential school system, Vimy Ridge, the adoption of the maple leaf flag, the 1995 Quebec referendum, and the 2025 debate over Canada becoming America’s 51st state, alongside the “Elbows Up” movement. For more than two centuries, the United States has looked north with the question of closer union. Canada’s response has helped shape its identity, independence, and national story.
