Why aren't Tottenham scoring, and is Sandro Tonali really to blame? A licence coach JJ and professional analyst Enya Collins break down Spurs 0-0 Everton — and the data says Tonali is in the 84th percentile for completed progressive passes, seventh in the Premier League.
The first episode of The 82nd Percentile. Jim, Enya and JJ take a step back from the hysteria and look at what De Zerbi's system is actually trying to do: Archie Gray inverting from right back, Mateus Fernandes dropping into a back three, and the half-space run that was on for 30 minutes and never got played. Enya's numbers show Spurs won the progression funnel — possession, progressive passes, carries into the box, 28 touches in the area — and still lost the game on xG. JJ explains the second-half tweak from David Moyes that stifled the midfield and why nobody solved it.
Then the Tonali question. Jim asks the panel to tell him honestly whether the £100m man is the problem. Enya and JJ both say no — and explain why Fernandes' bad day, Savinho's execution and quicker decision-making in the front three matter far more.
Plus: Van Hecke as the best player on the pitch, Robertson's body shape, wingers being shown inside, and why five games into 24 transfers and five managers might not be the moment for verdicts.
