The final leg of an epic full-day road trip — 60 miles back to Leeds via the A64, passing through the Vale of Pickering, the market town of Malton, the outskirts of the city of York, and the brewing town of Tadcaster before arriving back in Leeds. A satisfying end to a brilliant day on the road. Final part of the Leeds to Whitby series. 📍 LOCATIONS & POINTS OF INTEREST • Pickering — departure from this gateway to the Moors; the steam trains of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway leave from here • Thornton-le-Dale — often voted one of the prettiest villages in Yorkshire; look for the stream running through the village centre • Malton — the self-styled 'Food Capital of Yorkshire', known for its artisan producers, farmers market, and the Malton Food Lovers Festival. Also a Roman town (Derventio Brigantium) • A64 corridor — fast road cutting across the Vale of York • York outskirts — the city walls and Minster visible in the distance • Tadcaster — the 'Brewing Capital of Yorkshire'; home to John Smith's, Samuel Smith's, and Molson Coors breweries.
