LGE 2026 | Swartland tops municipal assessment

With local government elections edging closer, we are asking: How do we measure whether a municipality is actually doing its job? The FW de Klerk Foundation has assessed 50 municipalities against 100 tests of performance and constitutional accountability. Swartland scored 90 out of 100. Maluti-a-Phofung scored just 24. Johannesburg scored 49.5. Ismail Joosub, Manager of Constitutional Advancement at the FW de Klerk Foundation joins us to unpack 2026 municipal report card, how some faired!
