Teaching someone how to install flooring is important. But if we want people to stay in this industry, learning the technical side of the trade can't be where their development ends.
A career needs somewhere to go. It needs opportunities to improve, people willing to mentor, clear ways to build credibility, and a reason to keep investing in yourself year after year. Without that path, we may be teaching people how to do the work without showing them what a future in the trade can actually look like.
In this episode of The Huddle, Paul, Daniel, and Jose discuss the difference between training someone for a job and developing them for a career. They talk about mentorship, continuing education, professional growth, and the role employers and industry leaders play in helping the next generation see flooring as more than just a way to earn a paycheck.
Toward the end of the episode, Kevin Keefe joins the conversation and adds his perspective on what it takes to build and support long-term careers in the industry.
Getting someone into the trade is only the first step. If we want a stronger workforce ten or twenty years from now, we also have to give people a reason and a path to stay.
