Today’s client traveled an hour to visit my salon. Her hair was thick, strong, and resistant, and previous straightening treatments had not lasted as long as she had hoped. This time, we worked on her hair from roots to ends. I began by examining the condition of each section. The roots, lengths, and ends do not always respond to a straightening formula in the same way, so I adjusted my approach as I worked. I paid particular attention to the back of her head, where her hair was especially resistant. The amount of product, how evenly it is applied, and the processing time all affect the result. I made sure each section was thoroughly covered and monitored the hair carefully before moving on to the ironing stage. Some viewers ask why I use a flat iron when the hair already appears straight. The chemical process prepares the hair; the iron refines its shape and finish. Both stages matter, but an iron cannot make up for preparation that was not suited to the hair. After about four hours of careful work, her hair looked smooth, soft, and naturally straight. Seeing her pleased with the result made the time and attention worthwhile.
