QuickBooks Alternative: I Built My Bookkeeping System in Claude

I paid QuickBooks every month for a job I still did by hand. This is the QuickBooks alternative I built instead: one Claude project I set up once. For years I tagged PayPal transactions by hand, and my QuickBooks balances never matched my bank. So I exported everything into a spreadsheet and did the bookkeeping myself, while still paying for QuickBooks. Now I drop my CSVs into a Claude project once a month. In a few minutes it gives me category totals, and I enter about 10 line items instead of hundreds of transactions. The project is a set of instructions with nothing connected to it. I only upload transaction exports, so no account numbers go in. In this one I show how I built the instructions, then run a month of dummy data through it and follow the numbers into my spreadsheet and the dashboard it feeds. What it does not do: it does not file taxes, and it is not an accounting platform. It can make mistakes, which is why I review the totals before they go in. My CPA still does my taxes from the spreadsheet, and payroll moved to Gusto, which is how QuickBooks finally went away. If your business is fairly simple, the AI part is the easy part.
