We lived with the new 2026 Mazda CX-5 in Premium Plus trim for 1-Week and we found it to be very different yet still a Mazda. While we lament the loss of the Turbo-4 option, the new CX-5 impresses in rear legroom and an overall premium feel and stand out driving characteristics in this segment. From plenty of standard safety equipment, to a great HUD, power mirrors, ambient lighting, the CX-5 feels above most competitors. The loss of nearly all buttons is alarming inside - thankfully Mazda cleverly added essentials to the steering wheel - though the center console feels lonely. The new software is quick, responsive, well laid out, and offers a premium feel. Our only main complaint is the fussy climate controls and abnormally small bar for seat climate/additional climate settings.
