You just learn how to carry them. “Six Figgy” is dedicated to my brother, Ronald Nettles, and the lessons he left behind. Growing up, my brother was our all-time quarterback. He picked the teams, called the plays, and somehow knew how to put everybody in position to succeed. I didn't understand it then, but I was watching him give me a playbook for life. He earned the nickname Six Figgy because he repeatedly reached six-figure success despite never completing his college degree. But what makes his story special isn't what he earned—it's what he made possible. He valued education deeply and eventually became a Director of Admissions, helping others pursue the opportunity he never finished himself. Backyard quarterback. Then admissions. Different field. Same mission. He loved family fiercely. He kept people connected. He carried people. And, like too many heroes, there were moments when the people he helped were no longer there when he needed someone to help carry him. Losing him felt like losing a limb. I never got to say goodbye. I wish I did. But I know he knew. However many tomorrows are left for me, I'm going to miss him in every one. And on my silent days? I miss him a little louder. This record is grief, gratitude, survival and inheritance. Not the kind measured in property or money—the kind deposited into people. My brother isn't standing beside me anymore.
