Rainy Sakura Walk Along Meguro River - Tokyo [4k]
Wednesday, April 3, 2024 @ 5:20 pm time, 14°C / °F
It's hard to time the cherry blossoms in Japan, whether you're a local or coming from abroad. But the best time to visit Meguro River is when it's raining if you want to spare yourself some jostling. Consistently ranked as the top cherry blossom viewing spot, it was still somewhat crowded in spite of the rain (and on a weekday too), so you can only imagine how much more crowded it gets in better weather. At many locations, the cherry trees are illuminated by LED lights in the evening, called "Light Up" (not to be confused with the Christmastime "Illumination"). However, I think Naka-Meguro's may have already ended by March 31, which was a bit early before things even started really blooming. Alas, because of the changing weather, the blossoms bloomed later this year, and predictions were changing week to week. (Though I'm told that April, as opposed to late March, was when sakura would normally bloom in the past.) It only goes to show how difficult it is time.
Perhaps I'll brave the crowds with my camera to capture all the fuss another year.
This was the last stop in a three hour walk beginning in Shinjuku, which I think I'll upload in full at a later date.
