Mercury Living Presence Classic! Gershwin: Piano Concerto in F. Eugene List, Soloist. (1961)

From the golden age of Mercury Living Presence recordings comes this LP featuring Howard Hanson and the Eastman-Rochester Symphony Orchestra with pianist, Eugene List. The Gershwin Piano Concerto sounds to me like a melange of all his works such as Rhapsody in Blue, an American in Paris, and Cuban Overture combined with new material. The final movement is the most original sounding, although the conclusion (to me) is reminiscent of Rhapsody in Blue in its structure. This was produced by the legendary recording duo of Mercury - Wilma Cozart Fine and Robert Fine. The three track sound remains quite fresh, and the stereo separation, clarity, and soundstage still sound excellent 60 years after it was recorded.
