A Slower Farm Life Behind the Harvest Garden | Let Every Knot in You Come Undone with Birds & Chimes

SUBSCRIBE:    / @ambienceplanetofficial   Your phone died around three and you only just noticed. So you’re here now. On the stone wall, with a lump of moss under your left leg you keep meaning to do something about. The farmhouse is that yellow that only exists in autumn, like butter left out on a windowsill, and the chimney is going. Someone’s burning apple wood. You’d bet money on it. The sun slips down into the maples and the harvest garden goes amber. There’s the cart, pumpkins stacked so high the top one is basically a dare. A warty little gourd sits at the bottom. You’ve decided it’s your favorite. You named it Kevin. Don’t ask. It’s the hour when the whole farm turns the color of cider. Your aunt said that once, years ago, standing right about where the gate is, and it stuck in your head like a song. Birds everywhere. A chickadee keeps landing on the picket fence and taking off again like it forgot its keys. The birdsong comes from so many directions you give up counting. And the wind chimes. Somebody hung them on a low branch of the big maple right next to you, forever ago. They’re slightly out of tune, which only makes them sweeter. A soft breeze slides through the fall foliage and the chimes answer it, and a leaf drops into your hair. You leave it. The cottagecore videos never show the moss under your leg. Or how cold your fingers get when the light starts going. But this is still the coziest you’ve felt in weeks, and you’re not about to move. Somewhere behind your ribs there’s a knot you’ve been carrying since the start of the semester. You don’t catch the moment it comes undone. It just does. Across the valley a white New England steeple holds onto the last of the golden hour. Pumpkin season, officially. A slower farm life, if only for tonight. Down in the cabbages, the first crickets start up. Someone’s going to call you in for dinner. Not yet, though.
