The IbisPaint file for this video has eight hours on it and 400 layers 😭 Long ass description incoming 😨 ~~~ PRUSSIA 1. The State of the Teutonic Order followed Roman Catholicism, as dictated by the Teutonic Knights. But, then came along a dude named Martin Luther, and suddenly Protestantism was all the rage. After getting beat up by Poland, Albert of Prussia, Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, converted to Protestantism and founded the Duchy of Prussia. 2. In 1618, the branches of the House of Hohenzollern ruling Brandenburg and Prussia married into one another, and thus, Brandenburg and Prussia became best buds. They fought a bunch of wars, which saw the rise of the now famous Prussian militarism. In 1701, the Duchy of Prussia became the Kingdom of Prussia, which was largely possible due to it not being part of the Holy Roman Empire. Brandenburg, on the other hand, was , but everyone just included it in the territory of the Kingdom of Prussia even though it wasn’t officially until the dissolution of the HRE in 1806. 3. One of Prussia’s most impactful acts was unifying the German states into the German Confederation post-HRE. The German Confederation became the German Empire in 1871. Prussia became less powerful in the days of the German Empire, and even less after WW1 devastated Europe. Prussia was dissolved by an Allied council, post-WW2, in 1947. AUSTRIA 1. The Duchy of Austria was split from the Duchy of Bavaria, inside the Holy Roman Empire, in 1156. The Habsburgs took over about a hundred years later, and Austria became the *Arch*duchy of Austria in 1453. 2. The Austrian Empire was proclaimed in 1804, shortly before Napoleon founded the Confederation of the Rhine in 1806, after defeating Austria, Prussia, and Russia, in the Battle of Austerlitz, during the War of the Third Coalition. As I’ve said like ten times now, the Holy Roman Empire collapsed as a result, and suddenly big boy Austria was all on his own. 3. Part of Austria’s grand empire, was Hungary. Hungary was not all too happy about this, and they beefed for a bit. Eventually, in 1867, the states of Austria and Hungary were given equal (ish…) power, resulting in the Dual Monarchy- aka Austria-Hungary. Hungary broke it off on October 31, 1918, and the Austrian Empire gave way to the kind of existent Republic of German-Austria, which planned to merge with Germany later on. Instead, the First Austrian Republic was formed and lasted until the Nazis showed up. RUSSIA 1. The Russian Empire was proclaimed in 1721, by Peter the Great, passing down power from the Tsardom of Russia. 2. The Russian Empire gained large amounts of its power after the various coalitions finally got one up on Napoleon, and also from heading south and beating up the Ottomans. Their power got checked in 1853, though, when France and Britain decided they were getting too much power in Central Asia, and teamed up with the Ottomans in the Crimean War. 3. (In)famously, Russia was allied with Serbia, having helped them gain their independence, which lead Russia straight into WW1 alongside France. WW1 was the final nail in the coffin for the starving Russian peasants, who were being forced into battle with no boots, no guns, no ammo, etc. The people revolted, putting the provisional government in charge. Cue Russian Civil War, and now communisms a thing. Yay. [RIP my hands wtf 😭]
