Before Hurricane Lowell: My FOX Weather Interview from West Kaua‘i

This unexpected FOX Weather interview took place in Kekaha as Hurricane Lowell approached Kaua‘i. Although Lowell had weakened to a Category 2 and its center was tracking west of the island, it remained a massive and dangerous storm with sustained winds reaching 110 mph. Its powerful outer bands brought damaging winds, intense rain, storm surge and waves reaching up to 30 feet. Having experienced ʻIwa and ʻIniki, I shared my concerns about Kekaha’s low-lying areas, vulnerable older homes and powerful surf pushing large rocks and debris onto the highway and nearby properties—which unfortunately happened. Rising rivers and streams were also a major concern. Flooding caused significant damage across the North Shore, while the West and South Shores were hit hard by destructive surf, debris and damage to homes, businesses, roads and coastal areas.
