“One Battle After Another” received 13 nominations for the 2026 Oscars, and won six, including Best Picture and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson. In October, Wesley Morris invited The Ringer’s Sean Fennessey to celebrate the merits of Anderson’s films and to determine if this is his very best. Anderson is a rare figure in Hollywood — he’s widely considered to be one of the best directors of his generation, but he has never really had a hit when it comes to making money.
