🚨 Isaias is now a Category 3 major hurricane with 120 mph winds — and the National Hurricane Center expects landfall THIS EVENING on the far western Florida Panhandle, near Pensacola. The highest storm surge, 6 to 9 feet, is forecast from the Alabama–Florida border to Grayton Beach: Perdido Key, Pensacola Beach, Navarre, Fort Walton Beach and Destin.
What changed overnight: Hurricane Hunters measured 138 mph flight-level winds in the eyewall, the hurricane center upgraded Isaias to a major hurricane, and the track shifted east. Mobile Bay's surge forecast dropped to 3–5 ft, while the Panhandle's rose. Tropical-storm-force winds now reach 205 miles from the center. Hurricane-force winds could push 100 miles inland into southern Alabama. Rain: 4–8 inches, locally up to 15. Tornadoes possible this afternoon and all night, mainly east of the center.
