Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama has been identified as the man at the centre of the viral Vlamo Restaurant incident in Sandton, Johannesburg, after footage showed him allegedly threatening women inside the ladies’ powder room.
Mudzinganyama, a Zimbabwean entrepreneur and corporate executive, is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Moriel Infrastructure Group, an infrastructure development and specialist road contracting company based in Johannesburg. The incident reportedly began after he followed his girlfriend, her sister and their aunt into the ladies’ powder room after being rejected, before allegedly threatening to kill them. He was removed from the restaurant after security was called.
The incident has since led to widespread discussion online, with X users identifying Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama and uncovering information about Moriel Infrastructure Group. The company has also been linked to a SANRAL contract worth more than R107 million, adding another major development to the story.
The incident comes during a particularly disturbing period in South Africa, with reports involving women’s bodies being discovered in Ekurhuleni and CCTV footage showing alleged kidnapping attempts also circulating on social media.
