Work for 40 years, save a little, behave… and at 65 you finally get to live. But who decided that number?
It wasn't science. It started with a German chancellor trying to stop a revolution, spread to New Zealand (where you had to prove you'd lived a "sober and reputable life"), Britain and Canada… and was locked in by an American committee that literally split the difference between 60 and 70.
At the end: three lessons about time, money and the things we keep postponing, including why 10 years of saving can beat 30.
