Many drummers don't start exploring/learning about odd groupings or time until after they've been playing for a while. I encourage you to start working on these exercises right now, no matter what you think your level is. If you expose yourself to odd groupings, odd time, etc. early on, you'll find it much easier to hear these things happening in music, and much easier to internalize the feeling of odd groupings, before you are in a situation where you have to play a groove in 7 for example. We start with practice pad exercises and then I show you a basic orchestration for the drumset. Listen to this in 5:    • Crooked Creek   Listen to this in 7 (easier to hear 7 from 2:06 on):    • All the Things You Are (Live)   Drop your questions in the comments. There's a difference between practicing the drums and playing the drums. If you don't want to put in focused practice time to learn proper technique and get better, slow and steady, then just keep playing and don't waste time on this. If you actually want to get better and work towards something bigger, then stick around. If you're looking for a shortcut, you're only fooling yourself. #drumlessons #jazzdrums #drumtechnique #oddtimesignatures #oddtimegrooves #drumteacher #drums #howtoplayjazzdrums
