I had been super excited for this backcountry snowboarding tour since the day we booked it, and BOY IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I really didn't know what to expect in terms of difficulty, equipment, powder snow - I actually went in blind.. and loved every aspect of it.
I hope this gives you some insight into what we did and how we went! It wasn't as gruelling as I thought, especially if you slowly glide your way up the mountain - it was better to go slow and steady, than be sweaty and cool down in 'damp' gear whilst in the snow. This is not a complete tutorial, but skimming over some things you may learn on the way (just how you may be with a guide), with some helpful tips!
Our guide took us to Nisenpuri, about 10-15 minutes away from the infamous Niseko resort. It was in the trees, mostly sheltered from the wind. We were lucky this could go ahead as the Niseko resorts had many of their chair lifts closed as a huge snow storm was brewing.
Enjoy!
