I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU’RE GONE This one is for my mam, our Wendy. ❤️ I don’t think any description could ever explain what kind of person Wendy was or how much she meant to us. She was genuinely one of the good ones. Kind, loving, funny, caring and always there for the people she loved. She had a massive heart. But to me, she was my mam, my best mate and our absolute rock. There were only 16 years between us, and the bond we had was something special. Mam was so young when she had me, and I was lucky enough to be raised not only by her, but with my nan and my three aunties playing a massive part in my life too. I grew up surrounded by some incredible women, and I’ll always be grateful for every one of them. ❤️ When I lost her, I honestly couldn’t see how I was going to survive without her. Wendy was ill and we were told she had around 10 months to live. It was heartbreaking, but 10 months meant time. Time to talk, make memories and do the things we wanted to do together. Wendy was asked if she’d like to see her daughter in a wedding dress. She was absolutely over the moon. ❤️ So we decided to get married. We probably would have done it eventually anyway, but knowing how much it meant to Wendy gave us the push. We booked the wedding for two months later. In our heads, we had 10 months. She would be there. Or so we thought. Five weeks later, we lost her. 💔 But now, we are so glad we got married when we did, because we feel like our marriage was one last gift Wendy gave us before she left. ❤️ And Wendy LOVED giving us gifts. You only had to say, “Awww, look at that, that’s nice.” You’d forget all about it, then the next time we called down, the bloody thing would be sitting there waiting for us. 😂❤️ That was our Wendy. If she thought something would make somebody she loved happy, she wanted them to have it. So maybe this was her last gift to us. She never got to see her daughter in that wedding dress, but because of her, her daughter put it on. Because of her, we became husband and wife. ❤️ But alongside all that love is anger. Because my mam didn’t fucking deserve this. There are so many horrible people in this world who hurt others and treat people like shit, yet somehow they carry on. Then someone like Wendy gets taken. Someone loved. Someone needed. Someone who had done nothing wrong. An absolute angel. And she gets five weeks. How the fuck is that fair? It isn’t. It’s bullshit. Just before she died, Wendy asked us to write her a song. We started one, but she never got to hear it. Before losing her, most of the songs we wrote were happy , our lives, nights out, stupid things we’d done and memories we’d made. After my mam died, the happy songs stopped. Every time the guitar came out, everything came back to her. The grief. The anger. The memories. Everything I missed and everything I wished I could say. She asked us for one song. Without ever planning it, we ended up writing almost an entire album about her so far. ❤️ I Can’t Believe You’re Gone is one of those songs. It’s about missing her face, her voice, her phone calls and those completely ordinary moments I’d now give anything to have back. “You’ve been taken from me, it’s fucked, you didn’t do nothing wrong.” Because she didn’t. She didn’t deserve it. Some things don’t have a nice explanation. Sometimes life is just fucking cruel. And somehow, when the person you thought you couldn’t live without is gone, life expects you to carry on anyway. “I’m gonna be strong, I’m gonna fight, not gonna fall. Now you’re safe in my memories, with pictures of you on the wall.” My mam might not have been there to see me in my wedding dress, but she was part of that day. She’s part of every day. And she always will be. ❤️ She asked us for one song. We just wish she’d been here to hear them. My mam. Our Wendy. Our rock. Our angel. ❤️ I can’t believe you’re gone. 💔 Written by Kaylz&Bailz. © 2026 Kaylz&Bailz. All rights reserved.
