What's left of a person once their name, their body, and their future have been taken away?
In this podcast we break down *Man's Search for Meaning*, the book in which Viktor Frankl draws on his own experience as a concentration camp prisoner to explain what sustains — or destroys — a human being once every external freedom is gone.
The central thesis is precise: resilience under extreme suffering doesn't depend on physical strength or favorable conditions, but on the irreducible freedom to choose one's own attitude toward what happens.
Throughout this episode, our internal analyst walks through the architecture of the system — the three phases of captivity, the paradox of apathy, the will to meaning — while our external analyst pressure-tests it against its real limits and a comparison with other schools of thought.
Topics covered:
The three psychological phases of captivity
The paradox of protective apathy
Inner freedom as the last stronghold
The will to meaning versus determinism
The limits of the framework: exhaustion and negative selection
A comparison with Nietzschean existentialism
Based on the book Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl.
