Her son, Lakshya Singh Lathar, initially claimed that his deceased father’s spirit had possessed his mother and asked a temple priest to perform rituals instead of immediately seeking medical help. The case became even more shocking when Lakshya’s supposedly d**d father, Kuldeep Singh Lathar, appeared alive at Oshiwara Police Station. Investigators discovered that Sunita had falsely told her son that his father had d**d after the couple separated. According to the police investigation, Sunita, Lakshya, his girlfriend Ash Priya Banerjee, and others had allegedly consumed intoxicating substances on the night of the incident. During an argument, Lakshya reportedly believed that an evil spirit had entered his mother’s b*dy and ass*ulted her in an attempt to remove it. He then allegedly confined her inside the bathroom, where she suffered a serious head injury after striking the washbasin. A priest later claimed that Sunita was still breathing when he first saw her. However, valuable time was lost in contacting relatives, visiting the temple and delaying police intervention. Sunita eventually d**d before receiving medical treatment. Lakshya was booked under Sections 304(2), 323 and 343 of the IPC, while Ash Priya was reportedly treated as a prosecution witness. The case exposed how substance ab*se, deteriorating mental health, family conflict and blind superstition can combine to produce a devastating tragedy.
