Clark Gable was the King of Hollywood. One plane broke him.

Otto Winkler worked in publicity at MGM. On March 29, 1939, in Kingman, Arizona, he stood beside Clark Gable as best man. The bride was Carole Lombard. Gable was the star of the moment, and he was about to become Rhett Butler. Three years later, Winkler boarded a plane with Lombard and her mother. Gable did not stay in Hollywood to grieve. He put on a uniform and went to war. Three details to carry through this film: a bedroom left untouched for years, the only Oscar he ever won for a film he thought was bad, and a daughter who learned the truth about her father only years later. This is the full story, from an oil driller's son in Ohio to MGM, Columbia, Gone with the Wind and The Misfits. Behind the crown stood a boy who lost two mothers, an acting teacher who paid for his teeth, and a studio that sent him away to punish him. Where the record is disputed, we say so. Some parts of this story come from later accounts, and where the details are only told and never proven, we mark them as "it is said." #ClarkGable #OldHollywood #CaroleLombard #HollywoodHistory Chapters: 0:00 The Best Man 1:09 Born in Ohio 3:05 The Women Who Paid 5:56 An Oscar for a Film He Despised 6:35 Loretta Young and the Secret 8:25 Jean Harlow 9:40 Rhett Butler and Lombard 11:33 Flight 3 12:21 The Uniform 13:11 After Carole 15:31 The Legend vs. the Record 16:38 Kingman, Forest Lawn, Gable Estates Which Clark Gable film is your favorite?
