It's cited as Bong Joon-Ho's favorite film. It was called Kiyoshi Kurosawa's scariest film by Martin Scorsese. It's Cure (1997). A wave of random murders in plaguing Tokyo. People are suddenly, violently murdering strangers, murdering their loved ones, seemingly without remorse and without motive. The one linking factor in all cases: they carve an X out on the victim's body. A tense and unspringing, agonizing thriller about the compulsions inside of us, and the cure for the disease that is society. Inspired by the Tokyo subway sarin attacks of the mid-90's, Cure investigates the motiveless malignity of acts of violence and asks: is this the world we are doomed to inherit? Intro:    • Shigeru Umebayashi - In the Mood for Love ...   (Please note these are impressions from first time viewings, unless otherwise stated. If my points come across ill-constructed, inane, or otherwise unconvincing, muh bad bruh.)
