The Play of Herod was first performed in 1963 at The Cloisters in New York City, the medieval museum of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Like the amalgamation of monastic cloisters that make up the museum, the Play of Herod was a unique combination of plays from the 13th-century Fleury Playbook. And the play's surviving musical notation is brilliantly interpreted for this production. This is an important piece of medieval theatre history in the United States!
